Interview #36

First, what fandoms are you part of and how long have you been a part of them?

I’m in 3 fandoms, Directioners, Galaxy Defenders(McFly) and Gleeks, I’m a part of 1D fandom since november 2011, I’m a Galaxy Defender since 2008 and a Gleek since 2010.

Did it change your life like some fans claim it changed theirs? What impact did it have on your everyday life?

Yeah, It changed a lot, my idols give me hope that better days are coming, they, sometimes, make me happy when no one can. The impact on my day-to-day it’s absolutely the money I spend with things related to them, but It’s a nice thing, also the happiness I feel for being a part of their fandom.

Are there ever any fights or drama?

Yeah! always, every fandom has their dramas and fights, those things upset me sometimes, like, there’s always someone wanting to degrade you (don’t know if this expression is right, I’m not american/english), there’s a lot of fans that forget about their idols and just care about them selves.

Are you more involved with people of your fandom in real life or online? If online, which social network?

Actually I’m involved with both sides, I have a lot of real life friends that are in common fandoms, but I also have a lot of friends online.

Is your family supportive about you being in the fandom? What about your close friends?

My family definetly doesn’t give me support for being fan of something, they think I’m wasting my life with things that aren’t really important. My friends don’t really care to much for that, but they feel ok with it.

Have you ever been afraid of letting people know that you’re part of a fandom because you were scared of being laughed at?

Yeah, at the beginning I was afraid to tell everybody that I was a One Direction fan and a Glee fan, with McFly I didn’t because I was young, so no one would ever make judjement of me, but nowadays it’s diferent, I’m 16, so people think I’m not supposed to like 1D and Glee, what’s a bullshit.

Do you agree with the statement ” My fandom is my family ” ? Why?

Not at all, I think “family” is something too stong, I have mine, I see my fandom as my community, as my tribe, I don’t think all the fandoms are everytime one Family.

Passion, obsession, dedication. Which one of these 3 words do you think describes the best how you feel about your favorite artist?

I think dedication, as one of my friends said once: you are a slave of these guys, but I feel good doing what I do, I have passion on what I’m doing

Do you think you will stay in the fandom forever?

I don’t think forever, because I know that at some point of my life I won’t have time for that, but I can’t also say how much, it’s something that no one can know, I’m a McFly fan for 4/5 years, and I don’t know how long it will last, I hope for a long time

Interview #35

Anonymous.

First, what fandoms are you part of and how long have you been a part of them?

ummm quite a bit, actually. Britney Spears’ for 13 years, Taylor Swift’s for 6 years, Demi Lovato for 4 or 5 years, and a bunch of other ones. I’m really a part of a lot J. When I like a celebrity, I tend to go full out and join fandoms and stuff :P

Did it change your life like some fans claim it changed theirs? What impact did it have on your everyday life?

They’ve all impacted me in different ways. The celebrities themselves have inspired me beyond believe, and I’ve made friends that I can really count on. However, being so up-to-date and blogging about them and stuff kind of took over my social life and focus at school related things.

What are the ups and the downs of being part of the fandom? What are the positive and the negative impacts it has on your life?

positive-Always being up to date on news and finding things out first. Making friends with the same interest

Negative-how it’s all online and I can’t really do this stuff with “real life” friends.

Are there ever any fights or drama?

Always

Are you more involved with people of your fandom in real life or online? If online, which social network?

Online, definitely. Tumblr

Is your family supportive about you being in the fandom? What about your close friends?

I guess they have no choice, ahaha.

Have you ever been afraid of letting people know that you’re part of a fandom because you were scared of being laughed at?

umm, kind of. I’ve been hesitant sometimes to announce my favourite singers and what not, but at the end of the day, i’m pretty open about them because it’s quite obvious i’m obsessed.

Do you agree with the statement ” My fandom is my family ” ? Why?

Yes. I’ve made friends who know a lot more about me than my family or any friends. We are all cheering for the same person and all want the best for them.

Passion, obsession, dedication. Which one of these 3 words do you think describes the best how you feel about your favorite artist?

I guess it’s a combination of all three. You have to have passion about a singer to be dedicated to them, which either leads to obsession or makes people think you’re obsessed.

Do you think you will stay in the fandom forever?

I really hope so, but the reality is that when I’m older, I’m not going to spend as much time online or so up to date. But i’ll always love and cherish the singer and the friends i’ve met.
